Best way to use Negative Keywords in Adwords as a filter (February 09)

SEO liner

One of the most common mistakes I see when I look at a clients Adwords campaign for the first time is the fact that the Negative Keywords list has normally nothing added to it. Yet, this list of words is the filter which will weed out a significant number of unwanted clicks and potentially save you a serious amount of money.

Many of you do get confused by the concept of adding negative keywords. It is simply a list of words which you do not want to show for. If you for example are a holiday rentals company and you promote Venice hotels in Italy. Some excellent negative words might for example be:

  • Beach (because of Venice Beach in California.
  • California
  • USA

for example. Do use the time to add words to your negative list!
